With the dome control back up and running, I set up for shooting, and The Rosette Nebula is turning into an old favorite. I didn’t want to stay up too late, so I only got 2 hours of data, as opposed to my desire for 4.

Strangely enough, I’d actually shot this same object exactly one year ago, as part of a 4-object evening! Very funny to just change the year 🙂
OK, next up, I need to figure out how to shoot flats, and also I need to clean my optics. The dust bunnies are becoming my new trademark…
Edit 2/2/2017 – I reprocessed the image with flats applied. It got rid of the dust bunnies, but added some other artifacts that I needed to get rid of. You can also see that the color balance is different — my image processing workflow produces slightly random results in this area; I’ll get around to figuring it out 🙂
Anyway, I think the new photo is quite beautiful. It’s amazing to me that it’s from the same data.

Gorgeous. I’m assuming you’re not getting a lot of sleep right now 🙂
The early sunset helps me get in more time without making me stay up too late, but I have to admit, I was a little relieved to see some clouds in the forecast — I’m starting to get a backlog of images to process 🙂
