I zapped the encoders in the new assembly immediately. So I tore it apart, ordered new bits from Digikey, and breadboarded it. Once I got the interface cable worked out, I now have a working breadboard. Woot

I can solder it back together in the next few days.

Dome automation is so close, I can smell it. I actually pulled the K8055 out, to confirm the presence of pull-up resistors on all the inputs. (yes, of course. Come on.)

I have a date with a soldering iron.
