I woke The B up to see the lunar eclipse this morning. It’s the last one before 2014. Moon was looking good high in the west (it was much farther north than I was expecting — I am still getting used to the sky around here). It was in totality, perhaps a little umbra showing at one edge.
Jupiter is in Aries. Mars is in Leo. Saturn is in Virgo. All were above the horizon, with lots of stars visible in a clear, cold sky. Orion was near zenith. It was kind of cool to be able to see all those stars easily under a full moon.
It’s definitely below freezing out — I was crunching through frost on the deck while looking for the moon. Now the sun’s rising, and one’s supposed to be able to see the sun and the eclipsed moon in the sky at the same time, but I’m going back to bed.
