My understanding is that Max doesn’t care if the flats are blue — it
takes each pixel and averages it against the overall average value,
which means that you end up with a fairly gray image no matter what?

I’m not sure I’m reading it right, but various people have mentioned

that “spectral response in the LED light source” is not a big deal for Max.
