When I build a pointing model using PAC on the Gemini, I get this strange behavior, where the error numbers are very large and then get smaller and smaller to some fairly stable number.
I wonder if this is correct.
Also, I’ve noticed that sometimes I’ll have a stable large number and then it’ll go to darn near zero or sometimes jump way back up again (I attribute jumping back up to me mis-centering the star, but I have no idea why it would go to zero).
Also, I wonder if I have to run multiple iterations of Polar Axis Correction to get it right? Last time out, I had to run it about 3 or 4 times, plus rebuild the pointing model in between.
Inquiring minds want to know.
