A,
I’m thinking about deconstructing the G-11 once the moon goes around
again. I have questions:
1) Do you think that it’s possible to degrease/regrease the mount
without killing the polar alignment? ie; I just want to remove enough
parts to get the thing greased, without actually pulling the base off
the mount. Do you have a feel for whether this is possible or insanity?
2) have you ever heard of the bubble levels being incorrect? If they
*are* incorrect, what do I do about it? I need to check level very
carefully, but as long as the mount’s level, I can only assume that any
tracking/alignment problems are my own.
3) Do you grease just the worm+gear, or is there other stuff that’s in
there that you re-grease?
4) Any gotchas that I should keep in mind? I’ve done a greasing run on a
CG-5 mount before, so anything sproingy that I have to worry about?
I haven’t been out for 2 nights — 4 nights of beating my head against
the mount wiped me out. I’ll try again tonight.
