I think that I should do Observatory 2.0 in stages.
Stage 1: a concrete pier and perhaps a small deck surrounding it, with something as simple as tarp or cheapie shed over the top of it.
Stage 2: roll-off roof observatory, large enough for a pair of piers and a warm room (maybe integrated into the roll off structure)
Stage 3: put a dome over part of the roll-off roof observatory, leave the other half as a roll-off, keep the warm room.
Or the warm room could be between the two piers.
I would still like to do the NE small / SW big thing with the observatories, because I think that the house’s sky shadow will determine a lot about how high you can shoot in the west.
